I am delighted to invite you all, my friend, to explore our latest research, "Board Diversity Matters: Assessing ESG Performance Through the Lens of Firm Size," that has been recently published in Corporate Governance: The International Journal of Business in Society. This journal is classified as Q2 in the, and “B” in the ABDC ranking, and has an impact factor of 5.5.

This article examines the impact of board diversity (BD) on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance. Using data from FTSE All-Share firms between 2011 and 2021, the study employs regression analysis and the generalized method of moments estimator to assess this relationship.


Key findings indicate that

  • Board diversity significantly enhances ESG performance, particularly cultural and independence diversity.
  • Cultural and independence diversity positively impact environmental and social dimensions, while expertise diversity plays a stronger role in governance.
  • Firm size influences the diversity-ESG relationship, highlighting the need for tailored corporate strategies.


The study highlights the importance of board diversity in corporate governance, advocating for increased diversity to enhance ESG outcomes. It also underscores the role of policymakers and regulators in promoting board diversity for improved corporate responsibility and sustainability.


By integrating resource-based view (RBV) and stakeholder theory (ST), the research contributes to the literature by exploring how different dimensions of diversity drive ESG performance. Additionally, the study acknowledges the varying impact of diversity based on firm size, offering a nuanced perspective on how diversity initiatives affect corporate sustainability strategies.
